What is a Heat Pump?
Kennewick offers a good climate for heat pumps, although this heating and cooling technology isn’t as popular as it should be in the Tri-Cities.
One reason is the name. Heat pumps are a system that cools a home in the summer and heats a home in the winter. Heat pumps aren’t just an alternative for a traditional gas or electric furnace, but also replace a traditional air conditioner.
How is this possible? A regular air conditioner pulls hot air out of the home and blows it outside. This is what cools your home in the summer and makes an air conditioner useless in the winter. Alternatively, a heat pump, “pumps” in warm or cool air depending on the season. That’s one of the key benefits: one system can handle both heating and cooling.
