American Standard was founded in 1929 from the merger of American Radiator (founded in 1892) and Standard Sanitary. American Standard Companies, Inc. was renamed Trane, Inc. in 2007, and sold to Ingersoll-Rand in 2008.
At the end of 2002, American Standard Companies, Inc. had approximately 25,600 employees in their HVAC divisions. They had 29 manufacturing plants in 9 countries.

American Standard's warranties vary by product and component. However, they provide 5 year, 10 year, 20 year, and limited lifetime warranties on their heating and cooling equipment. Optional extended warranties are available.
